How to spring clean the energy in your home [UPDATED 2023]
Spring. It's a time for cleaning out cupboards and drawers and organisation. But how about clearing the energy in your space?
Spring isn't the only time your house should get an energy cleanse. If there has been a challenging time, stress, illness, arguments or lots of big changes in the air, it's a good idea to cleanse your space.
The following are my top picks for refreshing the energy in your home:
Diffuse some Eucalyptus or Lemon Myrtle Oil
I'm completely down for a smudge of Sage or a spray of Palo Santo (see next pick!) - both are popular energy diffusers for good reason. But if you're living in Australia, it's actually Eucalyptus or Lemon Myrtle that is native to our lands - and as such, is a perfect scent to use for cleansing your space. Use these scents in an aromatherapy diffuser or use when cleaning (I use Eucalyptus or Lemon Myrtle oil in the water when I mop the floors or I mix it into a spray bottle to wipe down surfaces).
Smudging
Herbal smoke is believed to have both spiritual and physical cleansing properties, as well as the ability to ward off bad spirits. Stemming from a long line of indigenous and ancient ceremonies, smudging is an easy way to purify and cleanse the air in your home. Made from bundles of dried herbaceous plants, smudge sticks utilise nature’s best-kept secrets to transmute negative energy in your home. Simply burn the smudge stick and walk around your home using the smoke to cleanse out any negative energy. I carry a small bowl filled with sand underneath my smudge stick to catch any ash that may fall. Pay particular attention to windows, doors, corners and underneath furniture. Snuff the stick out into the sand when finished.
Side note - sage is awesome, however my preference for smudging in Australia is burning Australian Sandalwood, or I buy an 'Australian Smudgestick' made out of Jukurrpa Wood made by a shop in Byron called Planet Corroboree. Both are great.
Play some 417Hz tunes
417Hz is on the Solfeggio scale. The Solfeggio frequencies are sound frequencies that are used for healing purposes. Each Solfeggio tone is comprised of a frequency used to balance chakras and keep the body, mind and soul in total harmony. 417Hz in particular, is linked to breaking up negative energy, negative behavioural patterns and negative thoughts. So play some 417Hz music through your speakers and let the frequency of the sound break up that negative energy!
Open the doors and windows!
With winter behind us, it's time to open everything up and ventilate! Open every window and door and let all that beautiful air freshen up the vibe in your home!
Light some candles
For centuries, candles have been used in sacred ceremonies to bring a peaceful ambiance into a space. Candles are also considered one of the most powerful Feng Shui cures. Lighting a candle will uplift and expand the energy in any given space. If life seems dull and routine, light a candle. Feeling stressed? Light a candle. Want to burn up the negativity in your space? Light a candle! The scents that will really give the energy in your home a good lift are any of the citrus scents, eucalyptus, pine, frankincense or peppermint.
Place some crystals around your house (of course!)
Crystals in your home will change the energy. You may not be able to see or feel their frequencies - but they're working regardless. The energy that crystals emit is stable as it's a fixed, regularly repeating, perfect geometric pattern of molecules - unlike the nature of human energy - which is unstable. So this stable energy is more powerful, and more powerful energy has the ability to influence unstable energy around it. Black crystals are also excellent to keep at the entrance of your home, to protect your home from any unwanted energy from entering. Crystals such as Black Obsidian, Black Tourmalline, Onyx, Jet and Tourmalline Quartz are great for this purpose.
